During the current production period PIAGGIO switched brake calliper manufacturers, from GRIMECA to HENGTONG. Although they share the same mountings the type of brake pad utilised is different. The GRIMECA callipers use S18 brake pads and the HENGTONG items the S51 type which have a slot across their centre. Both versions are of the floating calliper type, which means that the braking pressure is only applied from one side of the calliper assembly.
You can tell which version was included with your model of Vespa by looking at the outer build of the calliper itself. The GRIMECA unit has cooling fins, attached using four large 'Allen' screws, its HENGTONG counterpart however relies on direct air cooling and possesses a combination of four large openings along its body. This part of the assembly is attached with only two screws. As previously mentioned, the mountings of the complete assemblies are identical, making them interchangeable. Original brake pads are included and delivered with both systems when ordered.
TOP-TIP : Do not forget to order a suitable replacement brake fluid. For more braking power and precision we recommend the use of MALOSSI Sport, MHR or even sintered performance brake pads.
